Fort Campbell has four small arms ammunition amnesty boxes in which small caliber ammunition and explosive materials can be deposited with no questions asked. The boxes, provided by the post’s Army Field Support Battalion-Campbell, may be used by Soldiers, residents and civilians working and living on post.
These amnesty boxes are part of the installation’s amnesty program and are further described in Chapter 11, CAM Reg 700-2.
According to the CAM Reg, the amnesty program is to be conducted on a no-questions-asked basis to provide an opportunity for individuals to deposit items without fear of reprisal, or prosecution.
The boxes are painted red and have emergency phone numbers stenciled on them in case of questions or need for further assistance. The amnesty box locations are Central Issue Facility 5214 Eighth St., north wash rack near Angels and Market Garden roads, south wash rack on the far east end of Sentinel Road and the ammunition supply point near Building 7825 on Clarksville Base.
Unit leaders are encouraged to make Soldiers aware of the locations and promote an atmosphere that does not intimidate individuals from turning in discovered ammunition or explosives material.
The installation amnesty program is intended to ensure maximum recovery of military ammunition and explosives outside the supply system. It is not intended to circumvent normal turn-in procedures. Furthermore in accordance with paragraphs 11-3c and 11-3d of CAM Reg. 700-2, units may initiate and organize their own amnesty days in their unit areas.
The annual installation amnesty day is Oct. 18 at intersection of 101st Airborne Division and Boiling Springs roads. Organizations can refer to operation order FY19 Installation Amnesty Day for further details. This event will allow people access to the site without entering the main post cantonment area.
