101st celebrates 241st Army birthday

Sergeant Maj. Randall Windham, 54, the oldest Soldier from the 101st Airborne Division currently deployed to Baghdad in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, serves a slice of cake to Pfc. Seth Thompson, 19, the Division’s youngest Soldier currently deployed to Baghdad in support of OIR, during a celebration for the Army’s 241st birthday in Baghdad Tuesday. As part of the ceremony, the oldest Soldier serves the youngest Soldier the first slice of cake to represent that the Army takes care of its younger Soldiers first. Windham and Thompson cut the cake together after completing a run along with other Soldiers from the division and Coalition partner forces with the Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command – Operation Inherent Resolve.

Staff Sgt. Michael A. Lemanski and Sgt. Quentin Martin, F Company, 5th Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, rappel off a building during a demonstration in Philadelphia, Pa., Tuesday. The demonstration was part of a birthday celebration for the U.S. Army. Also participating in the demonstration were Sgt. 1st Class Robert Landry, Capt. Daniel S. Marshall and Sgt. 1st Class William J. McBride, Pathfinder and Air Assault branch chief at The Sabalauski Air Assault School.
