As the pages of the calendar turn, we find ourselves leaving behind the warm sultry days of late summer and begin a journey into the cool refreshing days of fall.

For many this is their most favorite season of the year with the crisp mornings and comfortable afternoons. Under the brilliant blues of an autumn sky we see that the hills are awash in an explosion of colors as the green leaves change revealing an awesome display of reds, yellows and oranges.

It is as if nature is celebrating the completion of another cycle of growth.

Yes, it is fall and the harvest season is upon us. By the grace of God it is time to reap the rewards of our hard work.

The words of the psalmist remind us of God’s faithfulness: “The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.” Psalm 85:12.

It is harvest season, a time to gather in all that God provides. With each passing day we see that the fields are yielding their crops as farmers ply their craft. The produce stands alongside the roads we travel announce to us that the pumpkins are ready, as sure sign that fall is here and the harvest season is upon us.

We rejoice in all that God provides: “The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us.” Psalm 67:6.

During this harvest season of celebration, we realize once again how richly we have been blessed. God has been and continues to be good to each of us. As the storehouses continue to be filled, we are also mindful that God is giving us an opportunity to prepare for what is to come.

Certainly the seasons will change, but the promises of God will remain, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” Jeremiah 29:11.

As the seasons of the year continue their endless march, we experience once again the joys and wonders of the fall, the harvest season. We celebrate and share in the bounty which God has provided for all people.

During this month of October, we see once again all that God has graciously provided for us. And we turn our eyes to the future knowing that God has more in store for us. He will continue to bless us according to his good and gracious will.

As the psalmist reminds us: “For he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.” Psalm 95:7.
